The Kelly 28 comes in two constructions – the rigid, exterior-stitched sellier and the soft, inward-stitched retourné – so the first job is confirming every trait of the bag matches its claimed build. The second key is the closing sequence: on a Kelly the straps lie OVER the lowered flap and turn onto the lock, rather than threading through slots as on a Birkin.

Sellier means exterior stitching, sharp edges, and a strict, structured shape. Retourné means inward stitching, rounded edges, and a softer silhouette. Replicas often mix traits – a “sharp” bag with inward stitching is a contradiction.
Straps over the flap
The Kelly flap drops first; the straps then lie on top of it and turn onto the lock – the opposite of the Birkin, where the sangles pass through slots in the flap. Swapped closing mechanics expose a fake immediately.
Turnlock and strap plates
