Evelyne PM: real vs fake

The Evelyne was designed as a groom’s bag for horse brushes — hence its defining marker: the perforated “H,” which started life as ventilation and was meant to be worn against the body. The model is deliberately minimal — unlined, zipper-free, closed by a single clou de selle snap — and replicas betray themselves by “improving” that simplicity.

What to check on the Evelyne PM

Model-specific zones — on top of the brand-level signs.

The perforated “H”

The perforation holes are round, uniform in diameter, cleanly punched, and the letter’s geometry is true. Ragged holes, mixed hole sizes, or a skewed H fail a replica instantly.

Clou de selle snap

The top is open; a small tab closes on a single round saddle-nail snap. A zipper or magnet on the main opening contradicts the model’s construction.

Wide canvas strap

The strap is a wide, densely woven canvas band with clean edges and leather ends. On the current Evelyne III generation the length adjusts; fraying edges and loose weave give a fake away.

Unlined minimalism

Inside, the Evelyne has no lining — one compartment showing the clean reverse of the leather. A “rich” fabric interior isn’t an upgrade; it’s a replica tell.

Generation consistency

Evelyne I has no exterior pocket, II adds the back pocket, III adds the adjustable strap. The feature set must match the claimed generation rather than mixing traits at random.

FAQ

Which way should the perforated H face?

Historically, toward the body: the perforation ventilated a groom’s damp brushes. Today most people wear the H facing out as a logo, and that’s fine — the bag is effectively two-faced.

The strap doesn’t adjust — is it fake?

Not necessarily: the adjustable strap arrived with the Evelyne III generation. Earlier Evelyne I and II bags have fixed-length straps. Match the feature to the generation the bag claims to be.

There’s no lining inside — is that right?

Yes, the missing lining is by design: the Evelyne is minimal, with a single compartment showing the raw side of the leather. A full fabric lining on this model is suspicious.
